But first the ads before the movie. We got the new Hobbit trailer and the Pacific Rim trailer, and both were golden. Down right golden. How can't it be golden?
Onto the movie...
This Superman movie is so, so, SO much better then the last one, Superman Returns. I ain't sure if this is reboot, though... I dont watch Smallville and I haven't watched other Superman movies. I seen more cartoons of Superman than anything else.
Going into this, though... A lot of the first part of the movie is flashbacks. We get a rather in depth look at Krypton before that though and it all fits into the movie rather well... and this movie also felt well paced and well balanced. Not sure how in depth Krypton is explained in other movies, cartoons and media, but this is a very good in depth look.
And then the perusal of Krypton's violent end...
And we get some slow start, really. A lot of the start of this movie is kinda slow and quiet. We get into who Superman is rather quick and get some good action, but as the movie goes along, it becomes a lot better. People think of Superman, the Man of Steel, last survivor of Krpyton... and we think of someone who has to watch his own step to prevent destruction because of how much power he holds.
Well in this movie, we get to see lots of Kryptonian brawling and power. Superman holds nothing back when fighting Zod and the others. It is glorious. Superman... is hit, with a locomotive engine. And it feel it. Every boom and smash you can feel in this movie. It is really a good example of Superman at his finest with his powers.
Zod and the others... These arn't just power hungry villains in this movie. They have reason you can understand, and even when they are stopped, you feel why they are breaking under the harsh reality of their end.
And in this movie, Superman is made incredibly vulnerable. Not by kryptonite, not by anything physical. It comes near the end when Zod is at his most desperate and he forces Superman to murder him. In that moment, Superman's soul is ripped in half and it just destroys him.
Course not all the movie is dark, hateful and then some. It has seriously strong moments, but it also has some good subtle humor too to make the average folk to crack a smile.
I recommend this movie. Heavily recommend.
Tis all~
